Here is what they are accustomed to since birth last December …
The babies have been kept in a communal enclosure and fed on live fuzzy mice and fuzzy ASFs. The only way they have ever been fed is by live fuzzies placed in a shallow bowl or saucer that is placed in the enclosure and left over night. The prey items are offered every 3 days or so but some eat much more than others. Dont know why. They have never been tease fed or tong fed.
They have a warm water (80F) rain system in the enclosure that rains on them every night or every other night for 15 minutes. They seem to drink almost every time the rain starts, even if it is running every night. The rain seems to encourage quick defecation and seems to keep them from getting constipated. When the rain starts they will sometimes uncurl their tails and drop them way down so that much of their body is hanging straight down from the branch and defecate. They have never had a water bowl.
The cage is well ventilated and so have big temp gradients for the snakes to choose from. Temps in the cage range from the mid 90s under the halogen lamps and the DHP (deep heat projector) to the low 70s at the far corners away from the lamps. The babies thermo-regulate depending on their shed cycle, food intake, etc.
Humidity is 100% during and after rains but slowly decreases to probably 35-40% before the next rain event. High humidity is helpful with sheds but not necessary for the health of the animal as long as it stays very well hydrated.
